ลำดับตอนที่ #63 : TCL2: Matthew, Lilies, and our Furies
My protector quietly walked in front me. He hadn’t said anything since I got the invitation from god.
I had no idea what was on his mind. I hoped he would share later. But seriously, I couldn’t see what I should be worried about.
I had been laughing along the walkway after I left my physician. His jaw dropping in awe when he saw my completely healed wound was really funny. Usually, a cut as deep as I had would take months of hand therapy until it would work fine again but not in my case. I wouldn’t have to see the therapist anymore.
Having a cursed cut was not that bad. At least it had an extremely fast healing time but it did leave an irremovable scar instead.
“So Dr. Johnson asked me to try to convince you to let him collect some of your tissue,” said Matthew. He showed up right as I walked out of the therapy room with a wrapped up candy box and a bouquet of lilies.
Lilies again, I hate this flower.
Dr. Johnson was a physician who recently got an update from my hand therapist about my quick recovery. He immediately began bugging me for a tissue sample for his research. Of course, I refused his request.
“Nah.” I drawled. “I don’t want to add more trouble to my life.” I looked away from the hospital’s owner who had been asked to persuade me. Not only would Dr. Johnson be in every medical journal, this hospital would also become famous for the discovery.
“Why? You know. Only a small sample from your tissue could help millions of people!” his eyes were dancing as he tried to explain. All I could do was just keep shaking my head.
Science and superstitions are on opposite sides. They will never meet at the same point.
“If you still want to be my friend, just don’t ask me about this again, Matt.”
Matthew stopped his step and looked at me with mixed feelings. “You know that I don’t want to be just your friend, Emma.”
He finally handed the bouquet to me. “Here this is for you.”
Those lilies… I could slightly sense the smell of them though I tried to look away from them.
The scar that had never hurt since the sacrifice suddenly had a very sharp pain.
My face must be wry as the guys around me started to notice that there was something wrong.
“What’s wrong, Em?” asked Matthew. “Do you have a pollen allergy?”
I bit my lip so I did not make a sound, and I couldn’t find a better answer so I just nodded.
“You should have told me earlier!” he immediately threw the flowers into a trashcan.
If he had ever noticed, that there were bunches of bouquets in my room.
Patrick turned around and looked at me silently with curiosity. My arm carefully flipped; I let him see my burning scar.
His eyebrows crushed tight. I followed his sight to the trashcan where the lilies were, then nodded.
“We will go home today,” said Patrick and disappeared.
What’s wrong with him? He never left like that before. Was he mad at me?
“Who are you looking for?” asked Matthew.
“No one,” I denied.
“Doesn’t look like no one.”
This conversation needed to come to an end. “I’m tired. I’m going back to my room for now.”
I began to walk back to my room. Patrick must be mad at me because I told Benjamin that I would think about joining his team.
That letter couldn’t be ignored, the letter from god. God… the one I never believed existed. I knew that one day it would be worth it. At least something inside of me told me that.
A hand softly was placed on my shoulder. “Em… I know that your heart doesn’t belong to me but one thing you should know is, I’m still right here waiting.”
I turned back around and looked into his eyes where I only found honesty.
“Let’s start over again, Em. I promise you that I will be the best man that you will ever have in your life.”
I shook my head. “Don’t do this, Matt. You’re trying to make me cheat on my boyfriend.”
“Then break up with him! Come back to me, Em,” he begged. His eyes dropped woefully like a little kid who missed his home.
I carefully removed his hand from my shoulder. “Please Matt. Don’t do this…”
“We need to talk about this, you know.”
I decided to walk away and rush back to my room but Matthew just dashed after me and pulled my arm.
“I’m not gonna let you go, Emma!”
I shook off his hand then screamed, “Stay away from me!”
The nurses who worked at the kiosk were staring at us like kids that didn’t understand calculus.
“I’m not going to get over it! You’re mine.”
Without warning, he pulled me close and pressed his lips on mine.
This was so… disgusting!
The instinctive slap to his face was loud enough to tell me how hard I hit him.
I didn’t care how angry he was. I didn’t even give a glance to his beastly look. I just turned to a nurse, who had her hand on her mouth in shock and said,
“Rachel.” I read her nametag. “Keep this man away from me or I will tell my father that choosing this hospital was a gigantic mistake.”
“Bus Miss Russell…”
“I will never give up, Emma!” Matthew’s shouted before rushing from that spot.
Ha! The owner’s son was embarrassing!
“I don’t give a damn who I’m having a problem with but if you don’t take care of this, I will take care of it in my own way!” I glanced at every nurse in front of me, as my eyes narrowed. “It’s not only Miss Rachel who has this stupid task; I mean all of you too.”
After a few second of trying to find excuses, finally a nurse name Carol said, “we will try our best to take care of this situation, ma’am.”
Carol was softly shivering like she was ready to cry at any moment.
Maybe I should stop scaring her.
“Alright. I believe you. I hope you two won’t disappoint me,” I walked away from them, and headed back to my room.

I walked quietly along the hospital walkway without a protector by my side. What Benjamin told me earlier was still sounding in my head over and over again like someone had hit a replay switch.
He chooses you to be one of us, the angel of the death.
I never knew that god would chose a human to be an angel instead of a pure spirit until Benjamin told me that I was the only exception, and when I asked him the reason I was chosen, he just smiled and said nothing.
Being an angel meant I didn’t have to be afraid of dark spirit anymore. On the other hand, it’s their turn to be horrified of me. Even if the curse of Laura was still in effect.
Actually it sounded like a great idea to keep my soul from being destroyed but there was a problem…
I had to pass a rite and train to become one and I would no longer be a human since the angel was not a spirit, and not a human.
No wonder why my dad became mad every time I asked about it. He would never risk losing his only beloved daughter.
And I was not going to leave him either.
I sighed at my destiny and aimlessly walked past hospital rooms.
