ลำดับตอนที่ #61 : TCL2: The Unwelcome Guests
This was so boring. I had been lying in the hospital doing nothing but physical therapy in the mornings, and watching television for the rest of the day. Every channel was reporting on how Miller Corp had been taken over by J.R. Corp. This made the company’s stock rapidly rise. Surprisingly, there was neither any news nor any rumors reporting on Lucas’ disgusting sacrifice. This was because my dad paid the people involved to be quiet. He told me that the cops had found seven female bodies buried under his cross. I was sure they would find more bodies as they dug deeper.
Mister Logan ended up in a psychiatric hospital after he regained consciousness and found his nephew hanging on a cross, covered in cuts and soaked with blood. Yesterday, my dad paid him a visit and a nurse told him that they had to sedate him so he wouldn’t try to commit suicide.
My dad and Amelia never stayed with me over night, since he had to take care of all the documents and systems of the newly acquired Miller Corp. So I had only Patrick and Matthew for company.
Matthew came to my room this morning with a box of dark chocolate and a beautiful white bouquet wrapped with a golden ribbon.
“You don’t have to buy me these every day, Matt,” I told him after I finished todays physical therapy. It was going quite well. I could grasp and squeeze a tennis ball now.
The therapist said I healed very fast, but I wondered why I still had a sharp pain deep inside my arm where the scar was. I even had it reexamined but nothing was found.
“I want to. I know you love chocolate,” he said. “I love to see you enjoying them and cherishing every chew,” he said. “Plus, I still hope that you will come have dinner with my family.”
The son of the hospital’s owner had been reminding me about his family’s dinner event. He should have already known my answer. My dad was making a huge profit thanks to this take over, so paying for his daughter’s medical services would not bankrupt him.
“I’m sorry to wake you from your dream, but I’m not going. You can tell your family that I say hi.”
Matthew didn’t have a chance to reply since he was interrupted by his phone. He pulled it out from his pocket and said, “hello.”
He grudgingly looked at me then sighed one more time. “Alright. See you there,” he put his phone back in his pocket. “I have to go now. My dad needs me. I will see you tomorrow, okay?”
Before I could say anything, he leant over and gave me a quick kiss on my cheek before running away.
“Invite him to my next full moon party so we can have some fun,” Patrick fretfully uttered when we were finally alone. “It’s obvious that he is a total jerk who has been trying to make a girl cheat on her boyfriend.”
“Boyfriend?” I stopped short and stared. A warm feeling was appearing in my mind like sunshine in winter as soon as he said that. “From what I remember, I am currently single.”
“Yeah… right…” he drawled and rolled his eyes.
I laughed at his response.
“I’m glad I can see you smile again,” said my protector. His smoky blue eyes really showed how grateful he was.
The room became unbelievably small when he looked at me like that. I tried to look away from this awkward moment but there was no place for me to escape from his sight. I had to admit that I wasn’t used to this feeling, falling in in love with a spirit.
“Why are you acting like I’m freaking you out? Hm?” he scooted closer to me until our noses almost touched.
Even though I knew that I could walk through his body, my feet never started moving.
I knew what he was going to do right when he began to lean closer since he was growing brighter. This was going to be an extreme kiss. I was kissing a spirit! There was only a few inches until our lips touched then he stopped.
A question suddenly popped up on my face. “What’s wrong?”
His eyes abruptly turned black and were fixed on something over my shoulders.
Three dark spirits were rushing towards me!
My guard flashed to stand in front of me as a shield and quietly mumbled his spell that would make all the spirits stop and disintegrate into thin air
“If you are here to do your job, then do it,” said Patrick steadily.
I honestly had no idea who he was talking to. Before I got a chance to ask, he continued his words. “I’m not going to waste my power on these fucks.”
A small silver chain swiftly wrapped around the dark spirits. They were screaming and trying to get free but the harder they moved, the tighter the chain gripped.
An angel gradually walked in from the balcony the same time that Patrick stopped his spell. His face didn’t show any expression other than boredom. His black leather coat was swaying along with the wind as his brown eyes were fixed on his victims.
Benjamin pulled his catcher violently. The small silver chain, which didn’t look like it was that strong; was burning red, bringing his pray closer to an agonizing death.
A static sizzling sound accompanied their burning dark bodies. One of the soul eaters was trying to reach out its long claw towards me.
Patrick stopped its sharp claw with his hand and those talons were burnt to a crisp all the way to its shoulders.
“Stop playing and take them away!” Patrick growled at the angel. His eyes were as dark as the blackest black hole in the universe.
I had to cover my ears because their screeching was getting louder every second. Benjamin took their last shrieks, as all of soul eaters were pulled into his cross and everything was back to normal.
Benjamin calmly closed the bottom of the cross, and put his necklace back on. “Good morning, young lady.”
This was an awkward moment. Even a three years old kid could tell how much my guard wanted this unwelcome guest to leave.
“You can leave now since you finished your job,” my protector crossed his arms and starred at his enemy.
Benjamin was still Benjamin. He never listened to this pure spirit or did anything that he didn’t want to.
“Who says I’m done with my job?” he paused and glanced at him from the corner of his eye. “Being a dick in front of a girl doesn’t make you look that cool. Just so you know.”
“You’re an asshole!” Patrick threw himself at the angel but Benjamin just pushed him away.
“Stop! Both of you!” Were they going to fight till the end of their second life? “What’s up, Benjamin?”
“Not much. Just it looks like you have a question to ask, young lady.”
“Is there anything I can do to stop you from calling me that?”
His lips slowly expanded to a small smirk. “I don’t think that is what you really want to ask me, young lady.”
I should have known that asking him to stop calling me that was kind of waste of time.
I admitted that there was a question that had been bothering me these past few days. Every time I asked my dad the question, I had never once got an answer.
“What was in the paper you showed my dad the other day?”
