Many people find journalism a very challenging profession.  Some find it too challenging that they give up.  Journalism requires a lot of practice and time.  And that is one of the main reasons journalism is among the hardest vocations in the world.  Journalism, or the career of reporting or photographing or editing news stories, is not an easy job at all.

Mastering journalism takes a lot of time and practice, as well as patience.  Journalism classes in college are a must for all people who want to become a journalist or a writer.  Classes like introduction to mass media or news writing and reporting will train the educatees the basic skills.  Future classes like college publications will teach them how to become cub reporters.  Students who pass these will move on to art photography and digital imagery classes, in which they will need their own creativity in making their news articles interesting for readers.  It takes a lot of years to go through all these classes.  Once the students have passed all classes, they can help make school newsletters, etc.  The cost of all the classes added might be very expensive in some places, for example, journalism classes in England can cost more than 1000 in total!

Even though the students have finished all the journalism classes in college, but there are still much more challenges to face.  Many people come out of college but cannot find jobs as a journalist.  Journalism is divided into many types of jobs.  Many people may end up working in a newspaper industry, while some end up as writers.  To get a job in a newspaper industry, you must know what the newspaper editors look for.  First of all, they want you to be interested in all events around you, no matter where or when each event is.  They look for a unique writing style which is easy to understand.  Good spelling, grammar, and punctuation are needed.  The most important part of all, you must be willing to work off work time.

Another way to get into a newspaper industry is to go direct to the editors.  One way is to write letters to them and tell them why you are interested in becoming a journalist and what makes you think you can do the job.  Editors that feel like you can do the job well will have you in the team for a few days to test your skills.  If this way does not work, try finding a suitable time to communicate with the editor.

You have seen that journalism is not an easy job at all.  You have to pass a lot of things and try your best to get in touch with the editor to become a journalist.  You need to spend a lot of money on training without knowing what your future would be.  Journalism is a risky career, but a lot of people find it a very exciting job.  Most people who are not raised in an English-speaking family find it even harder to become journalists.  But that’s the part of the challenge, isn’t it?
