A transparent PET sheet is a blanket of reflective foil-like material that can be laminated over a PET bottle to create a transparent, airtight covering. These sheets have an important role in the manufacture of Teflon coated bottles, particularly for foods which are sensitive to UV light. PET bottles are resistant to penetration of various gases and vapors, including some types of alcohol, and thus PET bottles have a number of uses in the food and drink industry. The transparent PET plastic is also used as packaging for food products, particularly oils, vitamins, medicines and other chemicals.

PET sheeting is usually manufactured by using polyimide binder and glass fiber in sheets made from low density polyethylene (LDPE). The final product is normally colorless or translucent, depending on the final application. This makes it useful for foods that are to be consumed by humans and can be used as a food product wrapper in packaging applications. There are three common types of transparent PET sheets available, with differing thickness and chemical composition. An eight inch PET plastic film can be made using a high temperature method and is commonly used in food and drink packaging. This is durable and provides good thermal conductivity. PET sheets of less than four inches are known as polyethylene triacetate (PET-Tac) sheets. They are strong and have high heat resistance and are available in various applications. PET-Tac sheets are not suitable for use in cosmetics.

A third type of transparent PET sheet is polyimide sheeting, which is more expensive than PET-Tac products and is generally used for cosmetic applications only. It is available in various thicknesses and chemical compositions and is available in rolls of varying thickness. It is difficult to cut plastic using a standard fax machine because the roll may contain small holes that are not visible when the fax machine transmits the data. Therefore, PET-Tac sheets need to be laminated together after manufacture to ensure that they do not contain any internal holes that may hamper transmission. This is one reason why some companies prefer to use transparent film as a packing material instead of using a separate plastic film.

There are many advantages of using a plastic sheet instead of a single sheet of plastic. The first advantage is that printing on the PET plastic is easier than printing on a regular sheet of plastic. The second advantage is that PET plastic sheets are easy to stretch without causing any damage to the plastic. Thirdly, PET plastic sheets are environment friendly and are available in a large range of colors.

The disadvantages of using PET plastic sheets include minor distortion if the plastic is bent sharply. Also, the plastic sheet may not bond correctly with other plastic materials because of its low melting point. However, if the plastic sheet is laminated together after manufacture then it can reduce the distortion and increase bonding, providing an almost perfect match.
