A dandelion field
“This place’s so nice. I want to stay here forever.”
“Don’t you feel bored with this place?” a voice of a man said.
The girl turned around, to faced a young man. He was wearing a clean white shirt and a pair of white trousers. His short hair was creamy white which resemble the color of sand on a tropical island.
“Who are you? And how did you get in here?” the girl asked the stranger.
“Well, I just simply walked in here. There’s no sign or anything that says it’s your place,” he said as he grasped a dandelion next to him and pulled it out of the ground.
“Hey. Why did you do that for? Don’t you know that flowers have feelings?” the girl screamed. She walked straight to him in an attempt to take the poor flower from him.
“This is for you,” he handed her the dandelion just as it turned into a white rose.
“How did you do that?” she looked at the rose in her hands. Then she placed the rose under her nose and smelled its sweet fragrance.
“You know, everything in the world changes. The weather also changes everyday. Today it may be raining, but tomorrow will definitely be a beautiful day.”
“What do you mean?” the girl asked with a soft voice. She felt that something was not right. Something was missing. Something that was so important and precious to her the most.
“You don’t belong to this place. You must go back,” he said.
She closed her eyes. Teardrops rolled on her cheeks. The pain in her heart was hurting her. What was this nostalgic feeling?
“I am so sorry. Please don’t cry,” he said. He touched her thin shoulder; she pulled his arm and embraced him.
“You must be strong,” he said as he ran his fingers across her hair. The girl still sobbed on his chest.
“Rosemary, you must go back. They are waiting,” the young man said.
“Can you take me there?” she said as she looked into his deep blue eyes. He nodded.
“Are you ready?” he smiled.
“Yes.”
He held her. The wind blew and both of them flew into the air with thousands of dandelion seeds.
In the air, the girl looked at the dandelion seeds flying around both of them. She looked down below and saw the field getting smaller and smaller. Then she looked at the boy and saw him smiling at her.
"We're almost there,” he said.
Bright light appeared above them. It was so bright that it hurt her eyes. Then the boy stopped flying up, only her still keeping going towards the light.
“Good luck, Rosemary,” he waved his hand.
“Can I see you again?” she asked.
“Yes, definitely.”
“Promise?”
“Yes. I promise.”
She watched him smiling at her for the last time before her whole body was immersed in that light.
Rosemary opened her eyes. She looked around her and found out that she was on a hospital bed. Her face and left arm were attached to many wires which were connect to a medical equipment by her bed. The left of her bed were her mother and father, sleeping on each other's shoulders on a sofa. Rosemary's parents were always having fights and both of them wanted to divorce. One day, Rosemary took a whole bottle of sleeping pills and lost consciousness. Her friends sent her to hospital and she had not woken up since then.
“Ouch,” Rosemary felt uncomfortable when she tried to sit on her bed. Her whole body was so stiff because she has not moved at all for several months.
“Hmm. What’s that noise?” Rosemary’s mother opened her eyes.
“Mom. Dad,” the girl said.
“Oh my God! Rosemary!" The mother was thrilled with joy.
"Richard, wake up! She’s back,” she shook her husband shoulders and woke him up.
"It's a miracle," the mother embraced her daughter with tears on her face.
“Rosemary. You have no idea how we missed you,” her father hugged both of them. When his daughter was in a coma, he swore that he would never have a fight with his wife again.
“Let’s start all over again,” the mother said as she kissed Rosemary’s forehead.
“Yes.” Rosemary said.
“What a beautiful rose. Where did it came from?” dad looked at the white rose in the girl’s hand.
“It’s a secret,” Rosemary smiled. She then placed the rose among pink tulips in the vase on the table by her bed.
“We’ll meet again someday. I promise.”
