      \"Sorry... I broke the promise\"

Tan, a boy who was born in an abandoned church near the village with a bad feature that wes evil. He was an anthro cat with brownish black fur, shining blond hair full of gloomy tone, both ears pointed downward and his eyes; cold emotionless light green eyes of him would make your hair stands on it\'s end.
The date of his birth was the day of a bad omen in the village. His father, who he had never seen, had been struck by lightning, left a burnt ghastly corpse behind. His mother died at the minute she had born him. All these truth gave a big fear to the villagers.
There was a top secret meeting,in a mansion at the center of the village,to judge that omen baby who had just been born...
\"We have to get rid of that child for our village\'s sake\" One of the quorum said.
\"Is that really a good idea? The baby is innocent and hasn\'t done anything wrong.\" The other man interupt but all the reply was a laughter as if it was a joke. After the laughter had died down, a man in a priest uniform then spoke to him.
\"Innocent? have you forgotten....that witch who bore that child had made a deal with the demon\"
          \"B...But that just a coincident, wasn\'t it?, sir\"
\"Huh?... Coincident?...How could it be? Once that witch had a miscarriage then after she prayed at the abandoned forbidden church, her child came to life again... And this time? She died right after the birth of her child, even more it\'s father died by a struck of lightning at the same time. Isn\'t it a result of a deal with a demon?\" After the extentive explanation had ended, the priest took a big smoke from his cigaratte before squeezed it with bare hand and threw it out of the window.
\"That child might be a rebirth of the demon. I think we should handle it before it grows up\" The first man who spoke in the quorum proposed to the meeting. Then the serious discussion went on.

\"Alright alright\" The chairman, an old turtle who was atleast 200 years old, got up and said \"We cannot prove that the event is relate to that baby. We should wait until he has grown up a bit, then we will decide from his behavior. Do anyone agree with me?\"
The hall fell in silence. Villagers started to whisper to each other, Only the priest who sat still and quiet. He would not raise his hand to support this proposal, for certain.
After the whispering had died away, the vote then took place. The result was 11 out of the 20 quorums agreed and 8 didn\'t to paticipate.
\"Damn...\" The priest was obviously displeased.
The chairman scanned the hall for a moment.
\"So, This is agreed. Who\'s going to take the observation of this child?\"
\"Let the first one who proposed the idea take responsible...Right, Elfran?\" The priest said while taking a look at the man who wanted the child to live. He was a Thai Lhang-aan, or saddle-backed dog; named by inversed fur in the middle of the back. His right eye was covered with a black eyepatch.
He knew that he would have to carry this mission, so he agreed.
\"Right, sir...because I\'m the one who proposed. However,if this boy is really a rebirth of the demon, I myself will destroy him.
He also knew that his behavior would be watched by the highher authority. But he could not let an innocent baby die, especially when it was his best friend\'s son. Elfran was quite shocked about the incident. Before his friend got struck right before his eyes, likely, he had said something about a deal. Was it really a deal with a demon?
After he arrived at the abandoned church he saw a baby lying in an old, shabby hammock, seemed to be asleep. He decided to take a close look for that he could see his face clearly, did not think it would be a problem.
All of a sudden, the baby opened his eyes as soon as Elfran had seen his face. Cold sparkle in those light green eyes of the baby pierced right into his heart.
\"W...What!?\" His legs instantly became paralyzed, being stared at by the baby. Its appearence was pretty good although most of the villagers believed it was an unfortunate. However, from what he had just faced, he realized that this child was not normal but he tried to control himself and gently hold the baby into his arms.
\"You haven\'t had a name yet, have you? From now on I\'ll call you Tan.\"

          ...

Tan had been living alone in the abandoned church for eleven years. He had to buried him self in a loneliness of the deserted church without a chance to meet anyone else, excepted for Elfran who came to teach him everyday. Tan did well and was a quick learner.
\"Hi Tan, what\'s up to day.\" Elfran entered the church with a pile of books in his hands.
Tan looked at him but said nothing.
\"Speechless as always, huh? Your birthday is coming, aren\'t you happy?\"
\"Birthday...just the same as every year\" Tan said, shortly.
\"Perhaps you\'re right, but this is the twelveth year which might be the last time. You have to prove that you\'re not an unfortunate of this village. you remember the promise,  don\'t you?\"
          \"Promise...\"

      --------------
Every year on Tan\'s birthday he had to go to the church of the village to take examinations, which were done to test morality of his mind, along with a delicate body check to find abnormality. Elfran didn\'t like a strict treatment of the church that seemed like they were trying to find fault with Tan. Also this examination was kept in secret. None of outsiders knew, even Elfran himself wasn\'t allowed to interfere. It seemed like such a bias for Tan.
Once, they seemed to over treated Tan that made him upset and that was the first time Elfran felt Tan\'s scariness.
          ...
          Tan\'s sixth birthday.
Tan was led into the luxurious church of the village by the church\'s owner: father Booron, the priest of the village, who came from the capital. No one knows about his background, only knows that he was trusted by the villagers. Booron secretly took advantage of them through the strong religious belief.
For that day the examiner was Booron\'s violent follower. He was an ugly argressive wild boar called Pork. The examination was never easy but this one would not be a gentle one for sure. When Tan had get in the room the gatekeeper then leaved and locked the door behind him.
\"I hope he\'ll be alright.\" Elfran was worried about Tan but he had to wait outside because of the agreement with those on high.

Pork walked toward Tan from the shadow of the edge of the room when Tan had settled himsilf on a chair.
\"Is this? That unfortunate. What a baby.\" said Pork, while he walked around Tan and spat at the boy\'s face.
Tan did not say a word but looked at the boar with his cold eyes, and it upseted Pork.
          \"What are you looking at!?\"
Pork punched Tan in the face, gave his lips a crack. Tan still kept his mouth shut although it was the first time someone punch him in the face. Wiped his bloody lips clean, Tan then said.
\"Won\'t you just quickly finish the exam..\" Disatisfaction seemed to present it self on Tan\'s face. Pork grinned.
\"Exam? I won\'t test you with stupid quizs like those old board. This will suit you better.\"
Pork gave him the second punch with another hand. Tan\'s nose started bleeding, but still, no pain was revealed.
