Commentary: At about 27 B.C. the Pantheon, a sacred building in ancient Rome dedicated to all the gods, was reportedly built. In Jerusalem, seven years later [20 B.C.], Herod the Great reportedly started rebuilding the Temple of Solomon. Symbols of Polytheism and Monotheism respectively, Roman and Jewish beliefs come to blows during the first century [70 A.D.] and the Jewish Temple is destroyed. The monotheistic faiths of Judaism and Christiaity are not inclined to worship a Pagan Emperor and, as a result, Jews and Christians are persecuted. [E.M.]

He later moved eastward and founded Constantinople many miles from the Western Empire. Commentary: Contemporary with the last Neptune/Pluto conjunction in 84 B.C., Roman legions first entered Palestine [in 63 B.C.]. Commentary: In the first century A.D., "Christianity" began to ascend Judaism as the most popular monotheistic religion in the West. In the 2nd century, Judaism declined and Rome grew to its greatest extent. In the 3rd century, Christianity continued to grow in spite of increasing persecution. In the 4th century, Roman-sponsored Christianity began its own form of persecution - against Pagans. In the 5th century, the Roman Empire began converting its enemies - to Catholicism. During the 6th century, Pagan and Papal politics contend for public popularity. Classic history calls this period the "Dark Ages."
