THE MYSTERY OF THE MISSING RING

 BY RAN PONEPRASERT, AGE 6, CHIANG MAI, THAILAND

 Once upon a time there was a little girl called Lucy who was a sleuth. One day her mother called her. “Lucy!” she called “where are you? My priceless ring got stolen. Can you find it?”

“Ok,” Lucy answered and called for her sister, Lucette. Lucy and Lucette were great sleuths when they worked together. Lucy pulled on her trench coat and so did her sister.  They met each other at the back door and grinned. Then they called to their mother “Mum, we are going out. We are going to be back right before dinner, is that ok?”

“Yes, that is ok” answered their mother.

“Yay!” cheered Lucette but then she stopped.

Lucy and Lucette could hear a noise. Lucy said ‘’listen to that! I think this is a good time to investigate!

They crept out of the back door and saw their neighbors arguing over their backyard fence. “No use,” said Lucette, shivering in the cold. She knew it was still quite bright in their backyard, but it was November, and that means winter, so it is cold. Lucette sighed. “This is a hard mystery,” she said.

“But I know we can’t give up” Then Lucy said, “I agree,” she felt proud of her little sister. She checked her watch. “Time to go”, she said.

Then Lucette replied, “darn! Hey look. It’s Charles. Hi Charles!’’ then suddenly a loud woof came from inside their house. “I think that’s Fluffy barking. Come on. He’s hungry. Give him his doggy meat.’’

So, they went in, gave Fluffy his doggy meat and ate their dinner. They went to bed after dinner, Fluffy with them.

Next morning, they met at the dining table. They started to talk in the middle of breakfast.

Lucy said, “in the afternoon, let’s go to search in the park and look for some clues.”

“OK” said Lucette exited. They were going right after school. They finished their breakfast and went to the shed to get their bicycles.

Soon they were off to school. They were actually in the same class. Lucette may be small but she was very clever. She was even cleverer than her big sister!

On their way to the park they saw footprints. Lucy said “look! Footprints in the dirt! And ring marks! Wait they’re pawprints aren’t they? So, I guess it’s an animal.”

“I think so too,” Lucette replied. They thought it looked like dragons pawprints.

“It’s getting late, “Lucy said. “Ok,” Lucette answered. So, they went back home to eat dinner. When they were done, they went to their rooms thinking where the dragons could be. They soon decided to go to their dragon friend Dragic.

In the morning they went to Dragic’s cave and found Dragic curled up inside his cave. “Hi,” he said, in a low voice. “What do you want?”

“Erm,” said Lucy “we just want to know if you know more dragon caves,”

“More?” Dragic roared “why?”

“Well,” Lucette answered, “our Mum’s ring got stolen, so we want to know where it is.”

“Oh,” said Dragic. “I understand. Wait, I’ve just a dragon carrying a ring.”

“What?” gasped both girls.

“Yep,” continued Dragic “he lives just ten caves from this one.”

“Cool!” said Lucette smiling.

“Let’s go!!” yelled Lucy excitedly.

“You can come too Dragic. You’ve helped us a lot”

“Yay!!!!!!!!!!” roared Dragic loudly.

Soon they came to cave ten since Dragic’s cave was the first.

They asked the dragon “Why did you steal a ring? We’ll ask you a few questions. First, your name to begin with”

“My name is Draco” said the dragon guiltily.

“Okay Draco, now why did you steal the ring?” asked Lucy.

“Because I had a jewel collection and I wanted that thingamajiggy watsamoly or whatever it’s called, for my collection, that’s all. I’ll give it back anyway, and sorry for taking it”

“That’s okay” said Lucy kindly.

“thanks for all the help Dragic” said Lucette.

Soon they went back home, gave back their mother’s ring, ate dinner, went straight to bed and slept peacefully. It has been a busy day.
