    How to combat fake news?

    With the advent of modern technology comes the ease with which fake news can be disseminated. Ubiquitous on the media are fake news created to misinform the readers so as to influence people’s views or cause confusion. This phenomenon is attributed to the lack of digital literacy among individual citizens, and has exerted detrimental impacts on the society at all levels. Therefore, it is of utmost importance that both the government and the public assist in mitigating this occurrence by increasing liability in online accounts and fostering critical thinking skills.

    One of the most effective methods by which the government can adopt lies in strengthening the liability in all social media accounts. Since the separation of the reality and virtual world has been implicated in the double persona of users and the prevalence of fake news, linking these two worlds together can in fact alleviate this situation. For instance, the government can cooperate with social network companies to necessitate identity verification like Pantip website, rendering the users more cautious of their actions on the Internet. Moreover, the government should impose laws on the fake news publisher to have actual consequences and enforce such regulation strictly, thereby discouraging the public from spreading fradulent information.

    In conclusion, the prevalence of fake news proves to be one of the most alarming issues worldwide. Nevertheless, there exist solutions that the government and the public can employ to alleviate this phenomenon, including, among others, linking the virtual world to the reality by increasing liability in social media accounts and fostering digital literacy, as well as critical thinking skills. Only through collaborations and dedications of all the relevant parties can fake news be eradicated.
