Tips

Tip1 – before you look at the answer choices, think of a word that makes sense

          Your first step is answering the question without looking at the answer choices.

Tip2 – Spot clues in the sentence: signal words

          Support signals

                   Look for words or phrases that indicate the sentence continues (moreover, and, in addition and furthermore)

          Contrast signals

                   Words between one and another (although, but, nevertheless, despite, however, even though and on the other hand)

          Cause and effect signals

                   Words that one thing cause another (because, since, therefore, consequently, accordingly, hence, thus and as a result)

Tip3 – Notice negatives

          Watch out for negative word (no, not, none; non-, un-, in-)

Tip4 – Words have many meaning; STAY ALERT

Tip5 – Break down unfamiliar words, looking for familiar word parts 

Tip6 – Take one blank at a time (for 2 Blank)
