The first version of Word, released in the  1983 &  was for the MS-DOS operating system and introduced the computer mouse. Microsoft released the first version of Excel for the Mac OS in 1985 and the first Windows version. The three major Microsoft pieces include the word processor (Word), the spreadsheet (Excel) and  presentation tool (PowerPoint.) Access is a database management tool, while Publisher allows for the presentation of various marketing materials.
