My tips to combat stressful living not only release stress, but help make your life happier, healthier and more fulfilled!

Stress is the cause of most illness, the reason for people taking sick leave from work and in my belief- it has a strong connection with depression.

1. Breathe

It sounds simple.......... and it is!

You don't need to pop a pill, press a point or have a cup of camomile tea.

The easiest, most effective way to relieve stress is within you right now. Just take a nice deep breath.

Aim to breathe in for the count of seven and breathe out for the count of eleven. That's just 18 seconds and you'll feel the benefits immediately.

Do this a few times, whenever you remember. It combats anxiety in the mind and body- regulates your heartbeat, aids digestion and brings you more фокус and clarity.

2. Think Positively

Because positive people have an innate faith that things are going to work out well for them, they don't waste time worrying.

Positive people lead longer, happier, healthier lives.

It's better to deal with the reality of what is happening rather than the 'what ifs' that probably won't happen. Whether you believe that your thoughts create your reality or not, it's actually better fun to be positive. Worrying places stress not just on your mind but on your body too!

3. Take time out alone

Having time alone helps you reconnect to the real you. You can work out what you want, what you enjoy, what you need and who you really are.

When you know these things and are taking steps to fulfil them, you will achieve happiness and fulfilment.

4. Do one thing at a time

If you are feeling overwhelmed, write a 'to do' list and tackle one task at a time.

When you accomplish the task, stop and reward yourself, remembering to tick it off (instantly giving you a psychological boost) before you move onto the next one.

5. Smile and Laugh

Have a good laugh or do something which brings fun into your life.

Laughter dissolves tension and helps to brighten any situation. It makes you look and feel younger. It also boosts your immune system which helps protect you against colds, hay fever and other illnesses.

6. Switch off your phone

Mobiles have become indispensable but they tie us to work, to home and responsibilities. Switch your phone off for a set amount of time a day or a few times a week.

You can be more present in the moment when you haven't got that distraction. Your friends or partner will appreciate it greatly, but most importantly you will reap the relaxing rewards!

7. Find a new hobby or activity

Take a creative writing course, take up golf or pool, take horse riding lessons, or do volunteer work. Find something away form work, away for the normal stress to фокус on and enjoy.

8. Reconnect with nature

Talk a walk in the park, the woods or just nip into the garden. Being in nature, is a wonderful way to slow things down and put the cause of your stress into perspective.

Watching the sun rise or set reconnects you to yourself - rather than the non-stop internal chatter which contributes greatly to feelings of stress. If you can't get out, even having flowers nearby to gaze at will help.

There is a peace a connectedness, a sense of balance and justice we get through nature that is vital to our emotional and mental health.

9. Put you first

Last but not least, primarily look after you.

When your needs are met and you're feeling centred and happy then you are in a prime position to help others if necessary.

Then you will be healthier and more able to be there for other people - at work home or socially.

Treat life like an adventure ... And enjoy!
