Title : Every breath I take

    659 words.

         Jaehyun’s dead.

Can be told with the heartbreaking crying sound of their step daughter next to him. All of the others came for consoling him and mourning, and right now leave to let him take his time right in front of the grave. Johnny stays in silence, let her discharging all the overwhelm feeling of the lost. He holds that tiny hand, and squeezes it lightly.

“Let’s go, Julia.”   Said Johnny, with a sad smile.   “Let papa rest.”

She nods sadly, tried to wipe the tears out of her face but fail. Johnny carries her out of the ground with his arms, softly wipe her tears from those green eyes. Kiss her gently on the forehead.

“Daddy’s right here with you, sweetheart.”

“We still got each other’s back, as always have.”

And from that, he can feel the squeezing on his back from the little girl in his arms, hearing the whine all the way home.

Johnny gives his lover’s grave a glance before he’s gone. A gentle smile but sad appears on his face while feeling the soft wind blow through.

Don’t know why, but he’s sure it’s Jay. Trying to soothe both of them.

Julia stays still on his shoulder, completely fell asleep.

“Don’t be worries.”   He whispers with the breeze.   “We’ll be fine, take your rest.”

“We will meet again someday, just keep watching us until that day.”

         “Goodnight, honey.”

Actually, he feels quite glad in the other hand.

At least it’s not Jay who’s here in the situation,  handling with the pain of missing someone.

But still Johnny cries, suddenly. After taking his daughter to bed.

It’s the second Christmas after losing Jaehyun. Johnny looks at Julia, baking Christmas cookies as we always do since she was young and Jay was still here. He smiles while glancing at the picture frame of his lover, having some of red roses, Jay’s favorite flower placed in front. And we’re going to watch Jay’s favorite Christmas movie, too. It’s turned into a tradition after that.

Merry Christmas, papa.”   Said Julia with the picture frame, before she turns to Johnny with a grin   “And daddy, too.”

He smiles, kiss softly on the little girl’s cheek.   “Merry Christmas, peanut.”

         And turns to the picture.

         “Merry Christmas, kiddo.”

“I really wish he were here, daddy.”   She said, looking at the picture sadly.   “I miss his smile.”

“Me too, honey. Me too.”   Said Johnny, holding around Julia’s shoulder.   “But you know what? He’s smiling in pictures we have, and I’m sure he’s right now smiling above.”

“He’s not gone, sweetheart. He’s alive in our hearts, our memories, There’re still have his breath and his life in the air. Papa is with us, everywhere we go.”

“We can miss him, but remember that just because he’s not here, doesn’t mean he’s gone.”

And the brightest smile appears on her face with a nod. She walked away for preparing the movie and call after him after she’s sure.

Johnny takes a quick look at the picture with a smile.

May the brightest smile be with you too, kiddo.

Johnny watches the bride walking slowly down from the stair with a sweet grin. Her bridal gown and smile filled his heart with delightful. She asks,

         “How do I look, daddy?”

“Amazing as you always are, peanut.”

She laughs, walking with him arm in arm to a car.

“You’ll be my first dance tonight, ready for it?”

         “With pleasure.”

Julia is gone with her groom, and Johnny is at the graveyard with his lover’s body, too.

He smiles, sitting in front of the grave, having a glass of champagne in hand and the flower bouquet in arm.

“She’s married now, time goes really fast, right?”

No one answer, but the breeze.

He drinks all the champagne in once.

         “Cheers.”

         “For our daughter.”

         “And me that missing you.”

         “Every day, in every breath.”

He stands up, having gentle grin on the face.

        Until we meet again, honey.

    FIN.
