The Exiled: Growing Crisis
For a moment I just stood there, trying to understand
the meanings behind Zyen’s words. I didn’t know what he want or what his real
intentions were. I just thought: kill me to save me and set me free of my
misery? You’ve got to be kidding.
“No.” My voice came out, weak and high pitched. I
wanted to sound firm and flat out reject him, but my body betrayed me. My hands
went cold in the unforgiving heat, and I felt Raleigh’s big hands slowly
envelope mine. Zyen watched every gesture with feral eyes.
“Let go of her hand. You don’t even love her. You just
want to protect your food.” Zyen’s voice came out hoarse. Raleigh didn’t
flinch. He couldn’t back down now. I begged him not to. His hand squeezed
harder.
“She saved my life. I have an obligation to save hers.”
He said, unwavering. My shoulders relaxed a bit. Way to go, anemic vampire.
“You, then.” Zyen gave a short reply and dashed
straight for Raleigh, but I was faster. I regained full control of my body and
swung Raleigh up into the air, using the currents to carry him up and crashed
down on other Wolves. Ig stepped up and clashed with Zyen. The rest of the
Wolves moved, and all the staff rained down on Ignatius. I jumped in, hoping to
take him out of there, but Zyen mercilessly smacked me backwards. I heard a
crack, and when I knew it, I was flying helplessly through the air, the wind
ignored my plea for help.
“Destiny!!” Raleigh screamed, but his voice sounded
distant.
Zyen had me in his arms. I can smell all the familiar
scent mixed in with blood and sweat. The days at Paradise came rushing back.
“You made stupid choices over and over, Destiny.” He
whispered. “First, you searched for an Exile. Then, you tried to live.”
