    The Exiled: Dark Stars

    Sheep and Wolf

Raleigh sucked on my wrists aggressively and wiped his mouth. I threw him an angry glance. My cut stopped bleeding real fast, and I stood up. He didn’t take much blood this time, so I’m not dizzy like usual. I took a piece of tissue paper from the rations bag and wiped my arm clean of the sticky fluid.

Elliah hid behind my back while Ig crouched on the floor, his hands flat on the ground trying to determine their exact location. Although he could be a real pain, his radar sense is the reason we’re still here to eat steamed buns today.

The Wolves are hunters in black cloaks and iron masks. They had been chasing us since we were exiled from Paradise. Ever since that heartbreaking event, they left us alone. But one day, they started chasing us. At first we thought they were there to bring us back to Paradise, but we were wrong. They tried to kill us on sight.

And we had to run away from them. We banded together and fled. You can run, but you can’t hide. They followed us everywhere we went.

    But we ran and ran.

    “There. 500 meters 10 o’clock.” Ig reported in a matter-of-factly way.

“We’ll go through the back,” I said after surveying the building. “Gee, I wish El’s explosive gaze will work on them.”

“We have to make them take off their masks,” Raleigh said, heading quietly to the opening on the other side. I grabbed his and Ig’s shoulder and floated down the building. Elliah squirms a little in Ignatius’ arms.

    Clink

I paused mid-air. There is no mistake. That was the sound of a Wolf’s staff.

Ig’s sense was totally off. We’re surrounded.

“What the!?” He cussed as the presence of Wolves crushed him like a canned fish.

“Exiles.” One of the Wolves announced grimly. “Your lives end today.”

He took off his metal mask, revealing part of his face. I shot a quick glance at El, whose hands positioned on the knot of the bandage behind her head.

“Why do you want to kill us, Wolves?” I took a look at their crest. “The Seccharian Wolves? Don’t tell me…!”

The mask was completely away from the Wolf’s face, and I froze in absolute terror.

    “Zyen? Is that….you?”

Because of the hesitation in my eyes, Elliah’s hands stopped what they were doing. Raleigh glared at me. We should be running away. I’m supposed to be the one who holds the gang together, but I couldn’t move. My feet touched the ground, but I couldn’t feel them anymore.

The man in front of me could not be over twenty, but he had a thick air of dignity around him. He’s frightening. His eyes are like ice, an emotionless killing machine. He held the staff firmly in his hands. The silver rings made a small jingle when he put his mask back on. We missed our chance of using Elliah’s ultimate weapon.

“Zyen Helsinski?” Raleigh said his name in surprise.

“Smells like him.” Ignatius said sarcastically and made sniffing poses.

“Whoever I am or whatever the reason does not matter. I will snap your neck with my two hands, Destiny Pinnapa.”

There was a click as his mask snapped back into place. Zyen inched closer while I stood frozen.

    Zyen was...everything in the world.
