    Props

    Props
In the normal world or industrial, prop means A means or device that keeps something erect, stable, or secure but in the movie industrial, prop is the object that fulfill the meaning or the composition of the scene. Props is one of the important stage in pre-production of the film because if the prop doesn't go with the scene

Props are also appear in 2D animation and 3D animation but it has the different way of process.

     Kind of Props

Props doesn't exactly has the specific kind of it because in different kind of movie, the Props maker need to design the different kind of props. For example the comedy film, the props must be a colorful and look kind of friendly.

The fantasy film must has the prop that doesn't look to simple such as lightning gun or the magic weapons.

    Making of props
As the props does not exactly have the specific way of making it, so we need the case studies of some kind of props to examine the making process.
Flamingo Props : 55 x flamingos ranging in height from 1.2 m. to 2.2 m. for comedy film.
    1. The flamingos bodies are first carved out of polystyrene.

    2. Mould is made from the original sculptures and fiber glass is then layered into the mould.

    3. A  finished flamingo is ready to be taken out of the mould.
    4. Lots of nearly finished flamingos, but only half way there.
    5. They are base coated in white etch primer.
    6. The legs are attached: as they needed to be free standing, the legs were made from steel and the feet welded on. Then came the moment we had been worried about, that they would not stand unaided. But here they are.
    7. Painted pink flamingos.
    8. Bubble wrapped and in the back of the lorry ready to be shipped to the location.

    9. Set all the prop to the scene.

Mermaid statue : A Mermaid carved out of polystyrene to look as if it is cast in bronze with a natural patina for fantasy movie.
    1. The basic shape is drawn out on polystyrene

    2. The carving of the polystyrene begins.
     3. The face begins to take shape.
     4. After further work what is to be the hair is stuck on with foam.
     5. Extra pieces of polystyrene are added to the sculpt.
     6. Hair is added with clay.
     7. The Mermaid is ready to be painted.
     8
. Just a few minor adjustments to the hands are left to do and the mermaid is
    complete.

    Props Maker
Props Maker is the person who has a job to make the prop. The props maker is all about the props, he or she is anticipated in every stage of making a prop. The Props maker should:
    • be practical, with a range of craft skills
    • be imaginative and artistic
    • be able to follow other people's instructions and interpret their ideas
    • enjoy making things

    2. The polystyrene blocks are added.
    3. Smoothed out to form the shape of two mounds (for touring, the whole area needed to come apart for ease of transportation).
    4. Carpet is placed on top and foam crumb is applied to it using strong glue and texture.
    5. On site at the studio with 3 ladders placed into slots that have been welded underneath the main floor and each one at a specific angle.
    6. The front elevation of the stage showed exposed roots to give the impression that the whole front area had been dug away.
    7. The final look of the stage with the actors.

    Technical Director/Production Manager
The technical director or production manager is the person responsible for evaluating the finished designs and considering budget and time limitations. He or she engineers the scenery, has it redrafted for building, budgets time, crew and materials, and liaisons between the designer and the shop. Technical directors often have assistant technical directors whose duties can range from drafting to actually building scenery.

    Set
    Set Construction
Set construction is a process by which a set designer works in collaboration with the director of the production to create the set for a theatrical, film or television production. The set designer produces a scale model, scale drawings (including, but not limited to: a ground plan, elevation, and section of the complete set as well as several more detailed drawings of individual scenic elements) paint elevations (a scale painting supplied to the scenic painter of each element requiring painting), and research about props, textures, and so on. Models and paint elevations are generally hand-produced, though in recent years, many designers and most commercial theatres have begun producing scale drawings on computer drafting programs such as AutoCAD or Vector works.

    Example of Set Construction
    1. Starting with a raked floor we built the area that would eventually hold polystyrene mounds.
