[Free meter; Religious theme; On the fleeting nature of all.
Inspirations: the Book of Ecclesiastes, and a hadith]

What is it at the end of our path?
    Is it even worth trying
    To wander the desert, thinking,
'What is it that is hollowed?'

Who are you in this world
    That the multitude should say
    'Adored! Forever blessed'?

    Are you the Prophet redeemed?
Or amongst the saints highly lifted?
Are you the chosen one that should
Raise up mankind from the pit?

Who am I in the throng of vanities—
    For everything is in vain.
    Meaningless, and meaningless,
    All things are
    meaningless.

Do your best today and ever
But at last you shall be
    forgotten.
Be in haste and no one remembers.

    People shall say today,
    "Your name is shameful!
And may your words be forgotten."
But in the end all shall be so:
    Forgotten and buried
    Under the mountains of vanities.

    God raises whomever he wills
    And he, indeed, brings down.
    "I shall afflict calamities
On he whom I love!" He declared.

Not every good shall be rewarded
On the earth to be shown.
Not every bad shall be destroyed
But in the After it is
    decreed.

So be despair of the fruits
Which grow from the seeds of actions.
And the fleeting days, you shall see,
    Are nothing but mere illusion.
