Israel
In the “Note Book”
- Israel is located in Middle East
· It used to be called Palestine before
- The capital is Tel Aviv
- Money is called Shekel [[this money has used from ancient time]]
- People
· The majority are Jews
· The minority are Arab [[Palestine]]
- Main religion are Jewish but the minority are Arabs [[Muslim]]
- Their government is Democracy
· They are the only democratic country in Middle East
- The most important city in the world, Jerusalem, is located in Israel.
· Because of the most three important religions in the world find Jerusalem to be their holy city.
ð The three important religions are Christianity, Muslim, and Jews
The reason why Palestine changed to Israel~~
- Palestine was ruled by Britain until World War II
· Palestine was the homeland for Jewish people
- But the HOLOCAUST, or mass killing, had happened in Europe
· 6 million Jews were killed by Hitler and Nazis
- Because at that time Europe’s economy was very bad, so they blamed the minority [[Jews]].
- The reasons why Hitler killed the Jew are because
· Hitler believed that the Aryan race is white race. [[ประมาณว่า...คนขาวเท่านั้นที่ถูก เทือกๆนั้นแหละ -*-]]
· He also believed that the Jews and Gypsy were inferior.
- After the Holocaust, Americans felt pity and sorry for the Jews, so they moved them to the land called Israel -_____-^^^
In the “Book”
- Negev Desert is a land of rock and sand that is the lowest point on Earth, it makes up the southern two thirds of the country of Israel.
· 2/3 of the Middle East is desert ngai
and most Israel live in Middle East.
- So, water is a very important resource in the desert.
· They say that the next three years, they will be fighting for water [[war of water]]
- Throughout history, people in desert regions have made a living by herding [[nerding 55+]] animals across the desert, not farming.
- But except for the people of Israel, they don’t herding but they farm by using technology to grow farm.
· How?
1. Irrigation [[computer controlled]]
2. Desalination = change seawater to freshwater by taking salt out [[but this method is very expensive]]
3. Developed new plants that soak up only water not the salt, so that they don’t need to use desalination which causes a lot of money.
4. Grow trees to stop erosion [[so that when the wind blow, the sand won’t fly awayyyy~~ 55+ทรายบิน^^]]
- Israel became a country in 1948, but they have almost doubled the amount of farmland within its border. That’s because
· They have been cooperation among farmworkers.
ð Moshavim = small farming villages [[the workers combine their money to buy equipment, they tell each other about new farming methods, etc.]]
ð Kibbutz= small settlement that cooperate in all parts of life. [[they eat, work, and share profits together equally]] but they don’t get any payment as they worked.
- Agriculture and Manufacture are important part of Israel’s economy.
- Most important river of Israel is Jordan River which shared between Israel and Arab countries around them.
· They use water from this river to irrigate part of the Negev Desert.
- The Jordan River causes the long conflict between Israel and Arab states, because if one built a dam, the other countries will be affected. [[they will not have water to use]]
- Israel has to have a large army.
· Because they are surrounded by different kind of neighbors [[which have different religion with them]]
· Their population is little, so everyone must join the army, no matter the men or women.
Saudi Arabia
In the “Note Book”
- Saudi Arabia is the number one oil exporter in the world.
- It is the largest country in the Arabian Peninsula.
· It covers about 80% of the Arabian Peninsula.
- It is the 14th largest country in the world.
- The capital is Riyadh.
- Population is only 27.5 million people
· Because Saudi Arabia is mostly desert, there is not enough water for its population.
- Currency [[สกุลเงิน]] is Riyal
- Language is Arabic
- The government in Saudi Arabia is Absolute Monarchy [[king]]
· People have no right to vote
· There’s no parliament but they follow the law from Sharia Law [[Islamic Law]] which can be found in Quran [[Muslim Bible]]
Important Things about Saudi Arabia
- Saudi Arabia is the birthplace of Islam.
- Two of the holiest places are located here.
· They are in the city of Mecca and Medina.
- Hajj
· It is a pilgrimage to relieve prophet [[Mohammad’s life]] which takes place in Mecca, the city of Saudi Arabia.
· The people of Muslim must do the Hajj once in their lives.
In the “Book”
- Before, many of its people made a living by herding livestock through the desert.
- But in 1930s, they discovered oil in Saudi Arabia and that made them rich.
- The Saudis are trying to diversify, or increase the variety of, their economy.
· They wanna create many different ways for the country to earn money.
- The nation’s wealth [[from exporting oil]] made it possible to build a good school system, new roads, etc.
- By using their oil wealth, Saudis have imported computers, cellular phone, televisions, etc. but the only imports that they believe do not violate Muslim values can be used in daily life =____=^^^
- In Saudi Arabia, many laws are dealing with the role of women such as
· Women who go out in public cover themselves with a full-length black cloak.
· Women may not drive cars
· Women stay in the female par to of the house if guests are visiting.
Kazakstan
In the “Note Book”
- Kazakstan is located in Central Asia [[to the west of China and border Russia]]
· It used to be part of Russia [[USSR or Union Socialist Soviet Republic]]
· It is an independent country
· It is the largest country in Central Asia
- Population is 15.2 million people
- Ethnic group = Kazak 53%[[Majority]]
Russian 30%[[Minority]]
German 2.4%[[Minority]]
Tartar [[Mongolian]] 1.7% [[Minority]]
Uygar 1.4%[[Minority]]
- Language is Kazak
- Religion = Muslim 47% [[Majority]]
Russian Orthodox 44% [[Minority]]
Protestant 1% [[Minority]]
- The capital is Astana.
- It was ruled by Russia from early 1900’s until independent in December 16, 1991.
- It also used to be former Soviet country.
· And at that time, Kazakstan was Communist.
- Now that Kazakstan became independent, they were ruled by a strongman.
· Strongman = grab all the power [[similar to dictator]]
- Kazakstan is in transition between Communist and Democracy.
[[They changed from ruled by Russia to ruled by dictator and then ruled by democracy]]
· Because the people are now want democracy, so they slowly change to democracy but not yet done.
- The Silk Road passed through Kazakstan duay ^O^
· Silk Road is a very important trading road that the people of Asia sell their things to Europe.
· The Mongolians also used this road to rule Eastern Europe and Russia before.
- Now that they are [[almost]] democracy, the people of Kazakstan need to learn about how to be independent.
· For example, they need to learn about open market. Because Russia ruled them for a very long time and the Russian controlled all the market in Kazakstan. So, they need to learn to govern themselves!! ^3^
In the “Book”
- Today, Russians work at many important jobs in Kazakstan, and some of them has the best jobs in a land of high unemployment.
- Tensions run high between Russians and Kazaks because Kazaks are not the majority of the population, but they control the government.
- Many challenges facing Kazakstan can be traced to the Soviet period
· One of these problems is the damage to the environment.
ð During the 1950s, the Soviet Union tested nuclear bombs in northeastern of Kazakstan. And that region is polluted with nuclear fallout which caused problems with the people around there. Many of the people have radiation poisoning, a sickness caused by exposure to radiation produced by nuclear explosions.
ð The Soviet also tried to grow cotton on land that wasn’t suited to it. They built irrigation system from the Aral Sea and that made the sea shrunk in size and the water became very salty.
- Kazakstan is also rich in natural resources.
· It has coal, lead, zinc, copper, and also the oil.
- Oil wealth may help Kazakstan pay the costs of cleaning its environment.
