Land and Water

-          Most important resource of Southwest and Central Asia is WATER

-          Rub al-Khali or Empty Quarter of the Arabian Peninsula is the largest all-sand desert in the world.

1.      They contain Earth’s largest desert

2.      Their landforms are made up of sandy, pebbles, boulders, or gravel

ð Mediterranean Sea separates Asia from Southern Europe

Climate and Vegetation

-          Southwest and Central Asia climate is extremes.

·         Scorching summers

·         Very veryyy cold winters >__<

-          They have the largest dry region, so drought is common.

[[Drought is a long period without rain]]

-          Plants in these regions grow quickly or have oily skin to protect themselves from heat.

-          People grow crops by using irrigation.

·         Wadis[[waterways that fill up in the rainy season but are dry the rest of the year]] is one kind of irrigation, because there’s no water so people need to dig an underground well [[to the water table and saturated zone ^O^!!]]. They must dig at least 600 feet to find water O___o

-          Most people settle near the water.

·         Near the Mediterranean Coast and the river valleys of the Tigris and Eupharates are heavily populated.

-          Also, most people work on farming.

-          Most countries in Southwest and Central Asia are agricultural countries.

·         But the amount of arable land, or land that can produce crops in, is limited. So people are using technology to solve the problems TT^TT

 

Natural Resources

-          Petroleum is form from the remains of ancient plants and animals. It is a nonrenewable resource, which cannot be placed

-          Southwest Asia is the largest oil-producing region in the world. Central Asia also has a large supply of it.

-          Petroleum is Southwest Asia number one export.

-          Oil wealth makes many countries in Southwest Asia to increase the standard of living, or quality of life, of their people.

·         Those countries can build excellent school, hospitals and import goods, workers from others.

-          Central Asia is rich in natural resources.

-          Kazakstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan are three countries of Central Asia that contain large oil reserves.

-          Southwest and Central Asia have as arid climate – dry and little water

·         Saudi Arabia dig wells to tap into water underground

·         Kazakstan built dams along Syr Darya River

-          The Aral Sea in Central Asia was once the world’s fourth-largest lake, but now it is drying up because the two rivers that feed this sea were channeled to raise cotton crops.

 

Turkey

-          Turkey is in Southwest Asia

·         It connects Asia to Europe [[it borders Asia and Europe]]

·         It’s divided between Asia and Europe

-          In ancient time, Turkey was called Ottoman Empire [[Eugene???]]

·         They ruled Eastern Europe

ð Hungary, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Greece, Romania

·         They also ruled Southwest Asia [[all the countries]]

ð All in the Arabian peninsula [[Arabian was made up from many tribes]]

-          They ruled the world because…

·         They want to spread Islam

·         One country in Europe that changed their religion from Christian to Islam because of Turkey is Albania]]

Ottoman Empire [[Turkey]]

-          Dracula came from Romanian Price who’s known as “Vlad Dracula the Impeller]]

History of Turkey

-          They started with Warrior Chieftain [[the leader of warrior]], his name was Ertugal Grazi. He ruled land in Anatolia [[Turkey]]

-          In 1281, his son, Osman, expanded the territory through the battle. He expanded the land for 16,000 sq kilometers.

-          Orhan [[Orhan is the new leader of Ottoman Empire ไม่เกี่ยวกับErtugal แล้วก็Osman เลย...อย่างงนะ =___=^^^]]also took his armies across into conquer Thrace [[a city in Greek]] and Europe in 1362.

-          By 1453, Mehmet the Conqueror took Constantinople [[Eastern Christian Capital]]

-          Brief description of Constantinople~

·         At that time Roman was too big, so they separated into West and East. The western capital is Rome but the eastern capital is Constantinople.

-          In 1520-1566, the time that Suleyman the Magnificent [[he was another king of Ottoman Empire]] ruled Anatolia, is the Ottoman Empire Golden Age.

·         Golden Age = strong armies,, beautiful courts,, brilliant decisions,, richest,, powerful สรุปคือมันperfect =___=

·         But after that Ottoman kor never strong like this again.

-          In 1990, after WWI Ottoman was defended…all the countries that they ruled were free and they all form Turkey.

Modern Turkey

-          Capital is Ankara

-          The largest city is Istanbul [[it used to be called Constantinople]]

·         Istanbul is the only country in Turkey that lies in Europe continents.

-          Population is 72.9 million people.

-          Main group of people are…

·         Majority [[most people]] are Turks

·         Minority are Kurdish

-          Main religion of Turkey [[majority]] is Muslim [[99%]]

But 1% is Christians or Jews.

-          Their State language is Turkish.

·         They also use Kurdish and Arabian [[they are two recognize languages]]

History of Ottoman Empire Broke Up

-          After WWI, Ottoman Empire broke up in 1900’s

·         Greek,, Russian,, French,, Italians invaded and took over Turkey.

·         Mustafa Kemal was Atutark [[Atutark = the title that was given by Turkey]]

He was the founding father of modern day Turkey…

ð At first, he was a soldier of Ottoman Empire

ð Then, he gathered all the soldiers and fought against Greek,, Russian,, French,, and Italians.

ð And he form the independent country called Turkey.

·         After three years of bloody fighting [[combat]] in 1923, he found Turkey at that time ^_^” [[เข้าใจไหม?เราก็ไม่เข้าใจเหมือนกัน -*-]]

 

Saudi Arabia

-          Saudi Arabia is the number one Oil exporter in the world.

-          It is the largest country in the Arabian Peninsula.

·         It covers about 80% of the Arabian Peninsula.

-          It is the 14^th largest country in the world.

-          Capital is Riyadh.

-          Population is only 27.5 million people

·         Because it has desert region, so there is not enough water for its population.

-          The government in Saudi Arabia is Absolute monarchy [[king]]

·         People have no right to vote.

·         There’s no parliament but they follow the law from Sharia Law [[Islamic Law]] that can be found in the Quran [[Muslim bible]]

-          Currency[[สกุลเงิน]] is Riyal.

-          Language is Arabic.

-          The Saudis are trying to diversify, or increase the variety of, their economy by create many different ways for the country to earn money.

Important Things

-          Saudi Arabia is the birthplace of Islam.

-          Two of the holiest places are located here.

·         They are in the city of Mecca and Medina.

-          Hajj

·         It is a pilgrimage to relieve prophet [[Mohammad’s life]].

For example, go to the place where Mohammad went before blah blah blah.

·         The people of Muslim must do the Hajj one time in their lives.
